Hi Guys,
I joined up because I really got tired of forums that provided pseduo evidence based approach within the fitness world. Instead they choose to promote "expert/guru" opinions, false positive logic (i.e. that sounds logical) and cult like mentality. I've been in the fitness industry for over 10 years now. As most of you experience or know we are an industry that loves the latest fad or gimmick that apparently gets people healthier or perform better. It's just been totally frustrating talking to the credulous individuals in my field on the new "it" thing they embraced. I'm happy to have joined this forum as I'm also finishing up my Master's program in human movement. This quarter I have classes titled Human Movement Dysfunction and Postural Assessment. Guess what our readings and discussions have to deal with the FMS, Sahrmann, Janda, NASM... The classes have only been open for 2 days and some of the posts already stated, "FMS is backed by a lot of research." Seriously? I feel I'm going to have a lot of headaches dealing with my classmates. I definitely feel like I came to the write place where there are like minded individuals. Looking forward to all the critical thought process that I'll be going through. Regards, Randy Gruezo |

Randy it was nice to ready your intro. You'll find a few people here with careers in fitness or coaching. Keep reading and asking questions. You'll notice a few current related fitness related post.

Hi Randy - welcome to the place where you will not get any help getting more popular with your colleagues
![]() Seriously, use the "Search" function or ask away for links and such; we have picked at FMS, Sahrmann and most every "method" or fad......

Welcome to SS, Randy. Glad to have you hear.
Sorry to hear of the headaches that you might have to endure with going through your classes, hopefully you can come hear and let off some steam occasionally with a rant if needed. A few of us have done that at times.

Hi Bas,
I've been reading a lot of your thread along with Benard. That's awesome you guys post everywhere. However, sucks for me. The last 2 nights that I've been in somasimple I haven't slept till past 5am because I've been catching up on all your posts. To say the least my mind has been a sponge. I haven't felt this alive in my studies for a long time. Looking forward to more interactions with you. Randy Gruezo P.S. By the way my goal was to never get popular with my classmates :-) I just hope I get graded for my content instead of going along with the rest of the crowd. Bernard,
Thanks for the welcome. Coincidentally I'm reading your sticky post on Posture. My text reading for my class is Sahrmann's, Movement Impairment Syndrome. So already I started writing down questions just by reading pages 3-6. Apparent her perspective is that of a biomechanical pain model. This is such fascinating stuff. Looking forward to reading more from you. Randy Gruezo |

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I've been up till wee hours of the morning reading the content related to fitness. Although I'm not a PT I find what you do extremely interesting. My fiancee is a PT herself and I always ask her questions. Don't know if she likes answering, but then again at least we have something to talk about :-) My major gripe with the fitness industry is the introduction of what I see as PT/Clinical based techniques, assessment, philosophy to otherwise healthy population. I never grasped NASM (although reluctantly I'm certified by them. Whatever that means), FMS, etc etc. That's why I'm here to further my knowledge and understanding so I can do what I do best which is S & C and leave you guys to do what you do best. Randy Gruezo |

Can anyone help me out here... I checked on the FAQ and the CP tab but I can't find how do I get automatically updated if someone responds to a thread that I posted in or just how to subscribe to a thread.
Maybe I just can't see it? If anyone can help that would be much appreciated. Randy Gruezo |

Good on you - your life will be indeed much, much livelier. Few friends, no sleep, lots of caffeine, angy believers arguing about your "attacks" of their golden calf... However, the benefits are: an ever better BS-filter, the recipients of your practical work will be much better for it, and that face in the mirror is one of the more ethical and educated ones!

Welcome Randy - do allow enough time to assimilate material or you'll go mad - I think I have

stow your ego, open your mind, and think before you use literary projectile vomitus as a defense.
it has worked for me...two ears, and one mouth (but two hands to type with...perplexing extrapolation eh'?) well, off to a tasty guiness! welcome! John |

Hi Randy,
The Sahrmann text may possibly be summarized with two sentences: "Completely ignore the nervous system. The brain is irrelevant to musculoskeletal function or pain." No, that won't be on the test! I never expected to learn that the foundation for the world of FMS, and NASM, etc. rests on the backs of turtles and elephants. If not for all the hype about corrective exercise, though, I'm not sure I would have asked the questions that led me to SomaSimple. I'm glad whenever I see someone else in the fitness industry asking the same questions... or asking any questions! |
