new book Fracture

I want to flag Fracture a new book by Ann Oakley a Professor of Sociology in London . I have only just got it but it will be a classic for rehabilitation professionals I am sure . It was reviewed in the BMJ a few weeks ago but it needs an Athens account to access this I think .
Basically Professor Oakely had a complex fracture of her elbow in the States which was plated and returned to London and was diagnosed with an ulnar palsy . The story is a bit like a leg to stand on .There are great chapters which brings neuroscience , homoncular plasticity , the history of Henry Head , Anns dealings with the medical establishment ,ambulance chasers etc to life . It is a personal account which brings all this material to life in a way that an academic paper will seldom do which is so interesting to me .
The OT /Physio and acupuncturist come out of the story very well . Professor Oakely is deeply interested in the conundrums of dualism , embodiment and sensation so many here would probably enjoy the book .
These are initial observations as i have only just got the book but i recommend it highly so far!
