Default Sleep

Is sleep important?

According to this article it is. There's good evidence this is the case. There's also good evidence that dreaming is important. Whether that occurs during waking and/or sleeping depends upon many things. I've written of this.

I recently had someone tell me that in her opinion dreaming was often absent because many of us didn't notice them. I decided immediately that she hadn't read the same things I had, including the research.

Ever think about this?

To get another to "cooperate" with information or behavior some "pain" is typically introduced. Restricting their motion and ability to sleep is often used.

Depriving another of sleep - it's often used, especially by those who aren't going to manhandle (for whatever reason) someone else.

Why?

I think that there's some good research that has led us to understand that dreaming is actually more powerful than sleep.

As I've said before, waking dreams are unconsciously generated motion. When these are restricted (by whatever means) some mechanical deformation may occur sufficiently to end up as a painful output.

The encouragement of ideomotion (movement secondary to thought) seems a reasonable way of ameliorating this. Being "nice" might be enough. Aren't therapists "nice" automatically?
