Default "Id", as in idiot II

Many of us remember this image from Titanic.

Quote:
Your consciousness is like a tiny stowaway on a transatlantic steamship, taking credit for the journey without acknowledging the massive engineering underfoot.
David Eagleman in Incognito
Two days later there’s this.

For me, these images represent precisely Eagleman’s point about our ignorance of unconscious processes and my frustration with getting the movement therapies to acknowledge ideomotion. Essays may be found here and here.

I’m trying to decide who the idiot is here – me for not presenting this with greater effect, or the Jack Dawsons of the world.

After all, we're both "dead".

Who else besides yourself is researching or giving seminars about the clinical consequences of ideomotion in the rehab & manual therapy world?

Often it's a matter of there being not enough people supporting an idea that keeps others away.

I have to admit Barrett that since I have read your articles and thoughts surrounding ideomotor movement it has left me completely at sea with my approach to teaching Yoga.

But here is the surprising thing to me, I am stating to like being at sea with it more and more. I keep coaching myself to leave the idea of collecting certificates and levels and just focus on understanding whatever it is I can.

What I really don't know anymore is when to offer suggestions to clients. More and more I regret any "correction" I give them.

There is another quote in Incognito very similar to yours above. I guess it says the same thing, but I like it too.

Quote:
It is something like a young monarch who inherits the throne and takes credit for the glory of the country - without ever being aware of the millions of workers who keep the place running
I don't want to be the monarch's newly appointed advisor who thinks that everything he tells the monarch is responsible for the glory.

Byron,

I confine my advice to those things that require it, and that doesn't include the motion that is instinctive and corrective.

However, I am the one carrying the context (initially anyway) and I've got a very different responsibility than you.

I know I've gotten wonderful support here but outside of the site there's not much of it out there.

No one I've spoken to can deny its existence, but they cannot seem to fathom the implications of that.
