I work in a rehab setting and have recommended mindfulness based meditation in the past.
I use it myself, too (not the "transcendental" thing....was turned off by the name already )Now there are some publications/authors who claim, that meditation might be the road to epilepsy (hyperlinks below). Judging from what I read, this seems to me like bad science when applied to mindfulness meditation! A bit like the "xyz might lead to cancer" crazes involving different foods and products....later, when "science comes along", the message is already out there. Meditation may predispose to epilepsy: an insight into the alteration in brain environment induced by meditation.Comment: Does meditation predispose to epilepsy? EEG studies of expert meditators self-inducing simple partial seizures. Some more Also: Transcendental meditation vs. Mindfulness (Meditation) From the neuroscientific perspective - does the hypothesis (meditation predisposing to epilepsy) make sense to you ? Hoping for a great discussion!
