Cranial oral holds

How do you work in a patient's mouth without tearing the lining of the mouth or cheek if they suffer from dry mouth due to medication? I have asked patients to suck the end of my finger to create more saliva, but some do not like this idea. Any helpful suggestions?

Stick your finger in some honey first? Or pineapple juice?

you should not have to use that much pressure that you risk tearing. Back off and hold longer without forcing.

What are people trying to accomplish with a cranial oral hold? I'm unfamiliar with this.

I am trying to lengthen shortened tissue...there are several nerves which are easily acessed orally.

Easy. Lubricate the glove with edible almond oil.

When I was considering flavored gloves, my dentist friend told me not to get them because the flavoring increases saliva production which makes it "usually" more difficult to do the oral work. But in this case, that may be another good alternative along with previously mentioned ideas. There are many flavors, have fun! LOL

You can have the patient suck on a lozenge just before treatment. I personally love Ricola! Lots of saliva production with those-not to be gross.

There are some gel products for dry mouths intended to work as saliva replacement.
