Surprise

Surprise.
I read an interesting remark in a fiction book which lead me to the following.

When we are children, we are frequently surprised by many things and events. These experiences decrease in number as we age. This is not always good.

I suggest that surprises keep us sane. They set us into new territory and give us something to contemplate in contrast to the "same old things" that were the rule.

There are people in the world who are never surprised because they do not notice what is surprising in the world and they just never wonder....

Both and either, I think Todd.

I do believe that there are those who willfully allow themselves to be surprised.
Of course, that statement implies the other side of that belief: many are fearful of surprises - see them as "disturbances" of safe routines.
